Welcome to Cherwell Counselling Centre
Therapy You Can Rely On
Cherwell Counselling Centre is based in Banbury but can provide virtual sessions and is happy to provide counselling in Bicester, Chipping Norton, Brackley or surrounding villages. Alternatively, if there is a safe and confidential space locally we can always arrange to meet you face to face.
What Is Therapy
Therapy allows you to talk to a trained professional about your problems and concerns. This is done in a safe and confidential space. Your therapist will help you explore your thoughts, feelings, emotions and behaviours so that you can better understand yourself and other people.
They will not give you opinions or advice, and they will not prescribe you any medication. But your therapist will help you to find solutions to cope with issues or make positive changes in your life.
For Best Results:
-
There are a number of different therapeutic techniques, so speak to your therapist about their style. You can ask for another therapist if it's not working for you.
-
It's important to build a trustworthy, honest relationship. You should be able to share personal thoughts and feelings in order to tackle sensitive subjects.
-
You should be comfortable enough to give your therapist feedback and build a great working alliance.

How It Works
Therapy will be delivered in regular weekly sessions, which last for 50 minutes. The days and times of your sessions will be agreed between you and your therapist. Therapy is provided one to one between you and your therapist. We do not provide group or family therapy. Sessions can be provided face-to-face or online.
Your therapist may use a variety of techniques and exercises designed to help you with issues during sessions alongside talking about and unpicking any problems you have. You may wish to discuss a range of things with your therapist, some examples are:
-
Personal relationships
-
Childhood traumas and experiences
-
Irregular emotions
-
Anxieties
Your therapist will listen to you in an open and impartial manner. They may provide you with therapeutic guidance, but they will not tell you how to think or what to do.
What To Expect
Introductions
Your therapist will explain how they work and what modality they use. You will be given time to ask them any questions you may have.
Assessment
Your will be ask to complete an initial assessment questionnaire which will include questions about your reasons for engaging in therapy and about any expectations you have or goals you would like to achieve during therapy. It's time to share some background and start the process of building a relationship.
Contracting
Your therapist will go through some terms with you, and you will be provided a written contract to sign.
This first session is important for making sure that you feel comfortable with your therapist and their way of working. You don’t have to continue with a therapist if you can’t relate to them or don’t feel safe.
